Funeral services for Helen Cox Williams, 82, of Palestine were at 11 a.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Linda Herron officiating. Private burial followed at Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Williams died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 2, 1928, in Palestine to Benton C. and Bessie Rodgers Cox. She married former police chief Hunter Williams.
Mrs. Williams retired from Lone Star Gas Company and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was instrumental in adding a chapel to the Cartmell Home. Her mother Bessie and Sara Cartmell were friends and enjoyed exchanging flowers and bulbs. She loved quilting, playing bingo, and her poker games at Cartmell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Williams; parents, Benton and Bessie Cox; three brothers, J.D. Cox, B.C. Cox Jr., and Clifton Cox; and a daughter, Cindy Skinner.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Armstrong and Tina Saucier and husband Walter; four grandchildren, Melissa Parker and husband Clinton, Ryan Saucier, Eric Saucier, and Keith Saucier and wife Kate; and three great-grandchildren, Macie Parker, Nathaniel and Natalie Saucier. She also is survived by a special niece, Jane Mathews; special nephews, James W. Cox and Ronnie Cox; cousin, Jack Cox; numerous other nieces and nephews; and close friends, Virginia Lemacks, Mary Mathis, and Lucille Haney.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of Cartmell Home for Aged, Palestine Regional Medical Center, and the Hospice of East Texas.
