Services fro Edward J. Jones, 80, of Palestine, were at 2 p.m. today at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Walker officiating. Burial followed at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington Land of Memory. Mr. Jones died Saturday at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born January 21, 1918, in Palestine to James T. and Esther Pearl Washington Jones. Mr. Jones lived in Palestine most of his life. He was a member of North Jackson Baptist Church and was a retired electrical contractor. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Esler Jones of Palestine; sons, Edward LeRoy Jones, Don Earl Jones and Jim Boyd Jones, all of Palestine, and Billy Bob Jones of Rusk; daughter, Katie Jones Watson of Nacogdoches; brothers, Charlie E. Jones and William Jones, both of Palestine; sisters, Sadie Long, Jimmie Dickey, Earlene Fledtcher and Darlene Harrison, all of Palestine, Frances Lafitte of Conroe, Mattie Carr of Illinois, Betty Arnett of Elkhart and Shirley Baker of Longview; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
