Funeral services for Dan Allen Day, 54, of Tennessee Colony will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Elkhart with the Rev. Lynn Willhite officiating. Burial will follow at the Day Family Cemetery near Tennessee Colony under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force.

Dan graduated from this life to the next on Friday.  He was born June 14, 1953 in Palestine to Howard and Mary E. Kaes Day.  He graduated from Palestine High School in 1971 and from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dan served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years where he was a B-52 navigator and bombadier. He was a decorated veteran of Operation Desert Storm and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

His military awards and decorations include Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 device, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 device, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 devices, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon/Pistol, Combat Readiness Medal with 1 device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal Kuwait, Kuwait Liberation Medal Saudi Arabia, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 4 devices, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with 1 device.

Dan was a Mason and had been involved with the parks and recreation board in Palestine. He had served as a youth director at First United Methodist Church, Elkhart. He presently worked at Aerospace Fasteners in Palestine.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother in November, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia of Tennessee Colony; sons, Ben Day of Conroe and Ian Day of Tennessee Colony; daughter, Jennifer McLaughlin of San Antonio; father, Howard Day of Tennessee Colony; brother, Dr. Phillip L. Day of Belton; and one grandson, Collins McLaughlin.

An Air Force Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Day, Ben Day, Cody Day, Ian Day, Larry Day, Zachary Day, Nathan Day, Jack Day, Howard Woodruff, Bill Floyd, Donnie Peragoy, Hugh Shine, General Keck, Jim Sampson, John Daugherty, Gerald Fagalde and David Braun.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
