Services for Maggie L. Black, 56, of Tyler, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Life Community Church, 1201 NNW Loop 323 across from John Tyler High School in Tyler, with the Rev. V.M. Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Foster Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Maggie passed away on the morning of April 26, 2007 with her husband and daughter by her side.

She was born April 22, 1951 in Palestine to Louise Williams and Rosie Wagner Williams.

She graduated from Palestine High School in 1969 and attended Trinity Valley Community College. Maggie was employed at Wal-Mart for many years before moving to Tyler. In Tyler she worked for Home Depot where she was dearly loved and affectionately called “Ms. Maggie” by many.

At an early age, she joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Palestine and later joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and choir president. After moving to Tyler, she joined New Life Community Church and was a deaconess at her time of departure.

She was preceded in death by both parents; a daughter, Patricia Black; and sister-in-law, Ella Ree Black.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 37 years, Alfred Black Jr.; one daughter, Shirlene Black, both of Tyler; one sister, Shirlene Gipson of Palestine; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Edens of Dallas, Geraldine Demar of Palestine and Penny Black of Mesquite; one brother-in-law, Rickey Black of Mesquite; hosts of nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.

Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCoy Funeral Home. On Friday, viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Sterling Funeral Home, 302 N. Ross Ave., Tyler, Texas.
