Services for Jerry Larue Jones, 58, of Montalba will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakwood City Cemetery with Dan Manuel officiating. Military honors will be accorded by U.S. Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
Mr. Jones died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born October 10, 1948 in Palestine to Roy and Loneta Gatewood Jones.
Mr. Jones was an auto paint and body technician and worked at Coleman Brothers. Mr. Jones loved to hunt, was an avid trail rider and loved his horse Blue.
He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Vietnam War, where he received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Purple Heart; Expert (Rifle M-14); Marksman (Rifle M-16); and National Defense Service Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Mac Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by a son, Richard Jones and wife Kimberly of Palestine; sister, Renee Whitley and husband Mike of Palestine; grandchildren, Ashlyn Jones and Travis Jones of Palestine; and a very special niece, Loneta Jones of Graham.
Pallbearers will be Michael Henderson, Mark Wolf, Harry Toole, David Killion, Stacy Creswell and Jonathon Hypock. Honorary pallbearers will be combat veterans of Vietnam.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
