Memorial services for Jack Joyce 75 of Palestine, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday May 18th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Hay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Jack, who was loved by all who knew him, died Wednesday May 11th, following a long battle with cancer. Born November 17, 1935, son of Dr. C.D. and Dorothy Joyce, Jack was a third generation Palestine resident. He was a star athlete and a 1954 graduate of Palestine High School followed by a football scholarship to Baylor University.
Jack met and married Shelley, his wife of 52 years, and raised three children, Jack, Jill and Judy, in Palestine. He was a local businessman, owner of the Burger Hut, residential home developer and rancher for many years and retired from the State of Texas. Jack was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved God, family friends and the people of this community. He will be deeply missed. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Shelley; son and daughter-in-law Jack and Tami Joyce Jr. of Austin, daughter and son-in-law Jill and John Mark Woolverton of Tyler and daughter Judy Joyce of Austin; brothers Claude Dalton Joyce III and Joe Bob Joyce and a sister Dyna Pierce; stepmother Winna Killingsworth; cousin Jerry Joyce; grandchildren, Jessica Cole, Julie Woolverton, Justin Joyce and Taylor Joyce.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles “Buddy” Francis, Paul Woodard, Carlton Brooks, Carl Stendenbach, David Joyce, Jeff French and Larry Cooper.
Visitation will begin 1:00 PM Wednesday before the service at the First United Methodist Church.
