Services for Paul Ives, 59, of Palestine, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Bill Beaver and Bob Friedlander will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at Roselawn Park. Mr. Ives died Monday at his home.
He was born in Anderson County on March 22, 1936, to William Earl and Hanna M. Ives. He was a self-employed land surveyor. Mr. Ives graduated from Palestine High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed at George Air Force Base as a crew chief on F100 Type Fighter aircraft. He qualified for pilot training in 1956, and attended training at Lackland AFB and Marianna, FLorida. He graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant from Greenville AFB in 1957. He was assigned to the 331st Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Kirkland AFB in Albuquerque, N.M., where he flew the F-86D, also known as the “Dog.” He was considered by his fellow pilots as a fighter pilot’s “fighter pilot”. He was honorably discharged in 1961. He flew his own aircraft, a “Bellanca” until last year.
He was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Land Surveyors and Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Ives of Palestine; his mother, Hanna M. Ives of Palestine; daughters, Linda Kasten of Loxahatchee, FL and Laurie Schneider of Martinez, DA; son, Paul W. Ives Jr. of San Diego, CA; sisters, Winona Conley and JUdy Ives, both of Palestine, and Ruby Smith of Centerville; brother, Kenneth M. Ives of Palestine; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Williamson, Bill Beaver, Lynn Smith, Keith Smith, Kenneth Smith, Jason Kasten and Bob Friendlander.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
