Roy L. Poole, 71, of Palestine, went to be with Jesus on Nov. 5, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Reagan and Dr. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Broyles Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Poole died Sunday at Hospice of East Texas, Tyler after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 12, 1935 in Anderson County (Harmony community) to Charles Marion and Katie Bell Huffman Poole.

Mr. Poole was a member of the Broyles Chapel Baptist Church. Before retiring he was a production foreman and had worked in the oil field business all his life, in this country and abroad. Roy was an example of a true Christian, fun loving, generous man. He was known throughout the area for his love of music. His gospel group played under the name of Roy Poole and Company. The love of his life was to share and bless others with his country gospel music. He will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.

Mr. Poole was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Barnie Poole, Benny Poole, Wayne Poole and Logan Poole; and sister, Nita Mae Lewis.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Pickle-Poole; three daughters, Kathleen Keese and husband Paul of Trophy Club, Terry Bell of Palestine and Vicki Stringfield and husband Jason of Palestine; three sons, Mark Greer and wife Phyllis of Conroe, Marion Poole and wife Corin and Montee Poole and wife Christy, all of Palestine; brothers, Clyde Poole of Palestine, Russell Poole of Alvin, Horace Poole of Odessa; sisters, Oleta Lewis of Gray, La., and Doris Fay Lucas of Crosby, 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Danny Poole, Jerry Poole, Richard Poole, Casey Keese, Karry Keese and Lane Stringfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Boy Dyer, Wayne McInnis, Ben Toole, A.L. Huddleston, Doug Bridges and Billy Harrison.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
