Funeral services for James F. Ray, age 75, of Palestine, will be held 1:00 PM Monday at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jay Abernathy and Dr. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Mr. Ray passed away Friday in Palestine. He was born March 24, 1936, in Palestine, to Andy Elwood and Rosa Lee Woodard Ray. He had a Mrs. Baird Bread route for many years as a young man. He was in the car business for fifty years, forty of those years at the same location. He enjoyed visiting with the people and selling cars. Mr. Ray loved his family and friends, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy Ray and granddaughter Christy Michelle Ray.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Joann Forrest Ray of Palestine, daughters Becky Mitchell of The Woodlands and Vickie Ray and husband Eddie of Palestine, sister Laquita Ray of Palestine, four grandchildren; Jennifer Paine, Aaron Ray, Heather Cornelison and Adam Ray, four great grandchildren; John Paine III, Jeffrey Paine, Addison Ray and McKinlee Ray.
Pallbearers will be Adam Ray, Aaron Ray, John Paine, Alan Cornelison, Steve Ray, Gary Calcote, Andy Calcote and Buddy Hackett.
Condolence calls will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Bailey & Foster Palestine. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of choice.
