Services for Mattie Belle Barber, 85, of Palestine, will  be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. William Newcomb officiating.  Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Fost Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barber died Thursday at Trinity Valley Medical Center.  She was born in Palestine on February 8, 1910, to A.M. and Fannie Walker Firebaugh.  She was a legal secretary.

Mrs. Barber was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Chapter No. 395, Legal Secretaries Association, Acorn Club and the Poetry Society.   She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. “Bob” Barber in 1961.

She is survived by her son, Fred Barber of Garland; sisters, Frances Hale of La Mesa, CA, Josephine Ellis of El Cajon, CA and Julia Sundman of Palestine; and two grandchildren.
