Services for John Bertis Evans, 55, of Palestine, are pending at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors in Tyler.

Mr. Evans died Sunday at a Tyler hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 13, 1936, in Elkhart.  He attended Palestine schools.  He was retired as a welder for Brown & Root Industries, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his father, Raymond Eugene Evans; sons, John Barrett Evans and Joseph Matthew Evans, both of Lake Palestine; brother, James R.E. Evans of Deer Park; and sisters, Maggie Defore of Waco, Mary Murray of Brownsboro, Clara Fincher of Palestine and Nelle Gustafsson of Fort Worth.
