Graveside services for Joe Calvin Bradley, 75, Athens, are scheduled for noon, Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Herrington Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine with Elvin Adair and Phil Pegg officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.He was born Dec. 2, 1935 in Palestine to Marcus O. “Monk” and Josie Wooten Bradley.
He passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 in Tyler. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict in the 1950s. He had a lengthy career with law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Texas, retiring from the Palestine Police Department. Joe was a compassionate Christian who founded Supportive Ministries International, a missionary organization that provided feeding and healthcare programs in underdeveloped countries. He had a “heart as big as Texas,” and was the perfect loving mate. Joe was an Expert marksman who enjoyed guns, target shooting, traveling and spending time outdoors. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, of Athens, and a great host of loved ones and friends. Joe is preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
