Lt. William Joe “Sarge” Moore passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005 at his home with family after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer.He was born October 17, 1931 in Palestine, Texas.He proudly served his country for 20 years in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam War. He retired from Alantic Richfield in Houston in 1984 and was a member of the Pasadena Masonic Lodge. He spent many of his later years in Florida doing what he loved best – playing golf, bass fishing and telling tales.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Kathryn of Pasadena, sons Mike and his wife Kelley of Austin, Robert Joe of Austin, daughter Jan Bullock-Moore of Dallas, grandchildren Joe, Bobby, Lara, and Cheri, two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Proctor Moore and wife Mildred of Palestine, sister-in-law Gladys Moore of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.
“Sarge” had a passion for life and leaves a large void. He will be greatly missed. Services will be at the Bailey & Foster Chapel, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to to 8 p.m.
