She graduated from Palestine High School. She married J.V. Owens on December 2, 1950 in Palestine. The couple was married for 41 years. They transferred with Texas New Mexico Pipeline Company and lived in Crane, Midland, Ozona and San Angelo.
In Virginia’s early years, she was active in the community with Jayceettes, Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star and First Baptist Church. She was a sole proprietor and her hobbies included gardening and custom framing. She was a talented oil media artist, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known by her beautiful grandchildren as “Granny”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.V. Owens on December 23, 1991; and her parents, William Frank Martin and Edna Martin Kleen.
Virginia is survived by her three loving children: son, Richard Owens and wife Cindy, of Dallas; daughters, Susan Yanacek and husband Frank of Midland, and Janice Blue, of Midland; eight grandchildren, Mandi Clapper, Skye Farris, Chad Farris and Kristie Chiuswa, all of Midland, Cody Blue, of Madison, Wis., Lance Owens and Michelle Brown, of San Angelo, and Amanda Walden, of Dallas; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Sanders, Hunter Sanders, Shandee Clapper, Christian Farris, Hagen Blue, Cloud Farris Rodriguez and Wesley Robertson; and one brother, Bud J. Martin and wife Bettye of Palestine.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim O’Banion officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lawnhaven Cemetery in San Angelo with Rev. Bryan Ross officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
