Services for Lucile Smith Whitaker, 81, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Palestine with Dr. William Newcomb and Martha W. Nicholson officiating.  Burial will be at New Addition Annex Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitaker died Monday at her home following complications from a broken hip and a two month illness.  She was born on June 28, 1914 to Herbert Ellis and Mattie Gooch Smith.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jessie Howard Williams Smith in 1984; and Pattie Smith Roquemore in 1989.

She is survived by her husband, Whit Whitaker of Palestine; daughter, Martha W. Nicholson of Madison, WI; sons, DeWitt G. Whitaker of Atlanta, GA, and William E. Whitaker of Nassau, Bahamas; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George McClune, Frederick Roquemore Jr., David Roquemore, Leroy Coleman, Jiles Upton, T.B. Bailey, Jr., Jim Jarrett and Ralph Harju.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bailey Summers, Henry Davenport, Melvin Wilcox and David Thompson.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
