Services for Doris Irene Bower Welch, 71, of Palestine, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robley Soileau and Jack Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Lane of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Welch died Thursday, December 8, 2005, at her home.
She was born June 21, 1934, in Palestine to P.H. “Pop” Bower and Maggie Naismith Bower. She had worked as a LVN at Memorial Hospital in OB, serving several nursing homes, and ultimately retired from the infirmary at TDCJ-Michael Unit. She was a longtime member of Memorial Christian Church and served many friends and relatives with love and Christian service through out her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Richard D. Welch of Palestine; daughter, Charlotte Welch Tolliver and husband Alvin of Palestine; granddaughters, Robyn Ryan Morrow and husband Chad Morrow of Palestine, Carla Tolliver Drueckhammer of Jacksonville; grandsons, Ryan Tolliver and wife Jennifer of Tennessee Colony, Brent Tolliver and wife Darla of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlyn Morrow of Palestine, Alexis and Austin Drueckhammer of Jacksonville. Tre and Sidney Mitsui of Roswell, New Mexico and Zoe and Hayden Tolliver of San Antonio; brothers, H.L. Bower and wife Sherry of Palestine, Henry Bower and wife Ruth of Shreveport, Louisiana; sister, Nellie (Sissie) Blackwell of Palestine; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chad Morrow, Ryan Tolliver, Joe Blackwell, Jackie Pugh, Martin Tolliver and Michael York. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Morrow, Bobby Wells, Jerry Stringfield and James E. Skelton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial Christian Church or a charity of choice.
