Palestine High School Alumni Association

Services for Eddie Hemby, 71, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Syrian Cemetery.

Mr. Hemby died Thursday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He was born March 20, 1935 in Palestine to Edgar and Annie Batary Hemby. He was a graduate of Palestine High School and Nixon Business College and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He retired from Knox Glass Company and also from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Mr. Hemby had worked for East Texas National Bank and owned and operated a landscaping business.

Survivors include daughter, Suzanne Meier and husband Kevin of Longview; brother, Donald Hemby and wife June of Tyler; sister, Emma Frazier and husband Lloyd of Virginia; two granddaughters, Katie and Kristen Meier; close friend, Nelda Russell of Palestine; and ward, Debra Dowling Schmidt of Elkhart.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Moseley, Johnny Kramer, Richard Farris, Terry Beck, Richard Farris Jr., Carlton Brooks, Robert Stringfield and Lee Stringfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
