Services for Noel Cameron “Cam” Woolverton, Jr., 68, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Abernathy presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Woolverton died Thursday in Reno, Nevada, after a brief illness.

His ancestors, the Woolvertons and Seaglers, were among the first to settle at Tennessee Colony in the late 1840’s.

Mr. Woolverton was born to longtime local civic leader and banker N.C. Woolverton Sr. and Jettie Seagler Woolverton on May 30, 1934 in Palestine.

He was a graduate of Palestine High School, Texas A & M University (Class of 1956), and also attended Southern Methodist University with studies in banking / finance. He also served proudly in the 35th Field Artillery Battalion, 10th Infantry Division in Germany.

For many years, he was associated with the East Texas National Bank in Palestine, then with Ryan Mortgage Company. He also was a Certified Professional Landman with a career in the oil and gas industry for over 20 years until his retirement. For over 40 years he was a member of the Palestine Rotary Club.

As a committed Christian he was active in a number of churches and religious organizations as well as foreign missions for many years.

He also was an active alumnus of Texas A & M University and served on the board of the College of Liberal Arts.

In 1957 he married Janyce Bynum of Palestine and they were the parents of two children, Noel Cameron Woolverton III and Catherine Bynum Woolverton.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985, his daughter in 1989 and a sister, Martha Woolverton in 1994.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Cameron and Martha Woolverton of Spring; two grandsons, David Ryan Woolverton and Brian Andrew Woolverton, both of Spring; one aunt, Betty Woolverton of Tennessee Colony; numerous cousins and relatives; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Greg Wilmore, Jim Unru, Jim Milligan, Hubert Massey, Charles Davis, Melvin Whitaker, Bill Bible and Jim Bob Paxton. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Joyce.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of lowers memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Crusade.
