Services for James Weaver, 70, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Palestine with the Rev. Lyle T. Huntress officiating.

Mr. Weaver died Tuesday in Longview after a lengthy illness.  He was born March 28, 1936, in Palestine to Melvin and Willie Weaver.

Mr. Weaver was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Palestine for 51 years. They used this as home base for theirmissionary work. He and his precious wife, Jo, were married for 51 years. He loved to read and work on his computer.

James went home to be with the lord after a three-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was a missionary for 37 years in Columbia, Ecuador and to Spanish-speaking people in the United States. He retired after being diagnosed but continued to minister to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry.

Mr. Weaver was survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Weaver of Palestine; three daughters, Michelle Jones and husband Daniel of Monterrey, Mexico, Sherry Glaze and husband David of Arlington, Wendy Solomon and husband Joel of Santiago, Chile; son, the Rev. Jay Weaver and wife Stephanie of Cardington, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and cousins.

Interment will be held at Middle Cemetery in the Palestine City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Stone, Javier Garza, Daniel Jones, Jay Weaver, Tommy Raley and Wendel Hiers.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church of Palestine.

A memorial fund has been set up at the Arlington Baptist College to help incoming freshman pay for their books. Donations can be made to the “Jack Weaver Memorial Book Fund.”
