Funeral services for Sara Elizabeth LeGard, 100, of Palestine will be 10 am Friday, May 20, 2011, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Chapel with Revs. Lynn Stroud and Gary Page officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. LeGard died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was born February 27, 1911, in Anderson County to Lemmie and Berddie Brown Hatfield. She had lived here all her life. Mrs. LeGard was a homemaker who loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. She was the oldest member of Friendship Baptist Church and graduate of Palestine High School.
Mrs. LeGard was preceded in death by her husband, Colley LeGard in 1985; son, Bob LeGard; 3 sisters, Elva Dunnavant, Georgia Pugh, and Maggie Hatfield; great-grandson, Adam L. LeGard; and great-granddaughter, Shanna Williams Scardino.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Legard and wife Marsha of Brenham and Larry Legard and wife Carla of Palestine; daughter-in-law, Violet LeGard of Houston; brother, George Gilbert of Palestine; 8 grandchildren, Marshall and Linda LeGard of Houston, Royce LeGard of Houston, Lucretia LeGard Williams and Donnie of Waller, Jerri Ann LeGard Smith and Rickey of Memphis, TN, Stanley LeGard of Brenham, Stephen LeGard and Kim of Lewisville, Eric LeGard of Palestine, and Jennifer LeGard Layton and Don of Palestine; 10 great grandchildren; and 7 great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
