John Greenberry Scarborough was born in Palestine, Texas on June 2, 1924. He passed away peacefully at his home on December 4, 2011 with his daughter at his side.After serving in the Navy in WWII, John attended Kilgore Jr. College, where he met the love of his life, Betty Jo Pearson. They both attended the University of Texas at Austin, were married on June 10, 1950 and shared a lifelong friendship until her death in 1998. John was a member of the Tejas Club at the University of Texas, was a Certified Life Underwriter, and Vice President of training for American General Insurance Co., was an active member at Terrace United Methodist Church, including membership in the United Methodist Men. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and was a member of the Houston chapter of the Texas FlyFishers. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty.He is survived by his older brother, Father Henry Scarborough, his only child, Kathryn Nelson, her husband Gary Nelson, his granddaughter Rebecca Nelson Stoltz, her husband Ryan Stoltz, his grandson Robert Nelson and his fiance Kristin Elliott. He will be missed by his family and many, many loving friends.A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, 4:00 p.m. at Bear Creek United Methodist Church.Donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , or the 100 Club of Houston.Published in Houston Chronicle on December 7, 2011
