Reba York 1928 Valedictorian

Services for Reba Farish York, 85, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Andress and Dr. Frank Royal officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. York died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital. She was born in eastern Anderson County on April 13, 1910 to William Henry and Lenora Smith Farish. She attended Shaids School and graduated from Palestine High School at mid-term in 1928 as Valedictorian.
Mrs. York was employed at J.C. Penney as head of the piece goods department from 1930 to 1940. She and her husband operated a dairy from 1950 to 1958 and she worked at The Fabric Shop, The Cloth House and The Jay Shop until she retied in 1988. She had been a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1943 and taught Sunday School and served on numerous church committees.
Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband, A.T. “Dick” York, on June 17, 1991; and eight sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Larry F. York of Austin; daughter-in-law, Peggy E. Bradley of Austin; and three grandchildren.
Pallearers will be Curtis Jordan, Earl Worley, Therrel Worley, Joe W. Chaffin, Bill Lasister and Jack Moody.
Condolence calls will be received from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the building fund at Southside Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
