Services for Vernal M. Collins Jr., 61, of Plaestine, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with Dr. Ronald P. Sloan officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mr. Collins died Friday at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born Nov. 18, 1939 in Anderson County to Vernal and Mozelle Collins.

Mr. Collins lived in Anderson County all his life.  He was a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church.  He worked as a mechanic and served in the Army National Guard and the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Anne Collins of Palestine; son, Lance Collins of Palestine; brothers, Norman Collins of Montalba and Leon Collins of Palestine; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Collins, Kel Collins, Travis Collins, Robert Britton, Frank Hudgins and Johnny Williams.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
