LACY LEON SPEARS, 70, died September 17, 2011, at his Sugar Land, Texas home surrounded by family, after a brave battle with Leukemia.

Mr. Spears was born, December 11, 1940 in Palestine, to Leon Hollis Spears and Annie Kate Valentine Spears. After graduation from Palestine High School in 1958, he continued his education at Sam Houston State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Lacy was married to Brenda Hudson in 1963. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years and the reserves for four years, retiring as a Captain. Lacy then attended Texas A&M University and received a Master of Business Administration Degree. He spent his business career working in human resources and traveling worldwide for Texas Instruments and Halliburton. In recent years, Lacy enjoyed working as a real estate agent. He served as an elder at First Colony Church of Christ for many years. Lacy was an avid reader, people person, and was an enthusiastic “Pops” to his grandchildren. He loved Aggie football and was a patriotic supporter of the armed forces.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Hudson Spears of Sugar Land; a half brother, Jack Woolverton of Dallas, and three children and their spouses; Lane Spears and wife Kristina, Jennifer Lewis and husband Russell, and Stephanie Logan and husband Kevin; and ten grandchildren, Cody, Addison, Campbell and Carter Lewis, Caroline, John Preston and Katie Spears, Emerson, Nash and Finn Logan.

He was preceded in death by his father; his parents; and his stepfather, Bill Foster Woolverton.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 10 am, at First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land, Texas, followed by a 4 pm graveside service the same day at Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine. Memorials may be made in his memory to the First Colony Church of Christ, 2140 First Colony Blvd. Sugar Land, Texas 77479, or to the Houston Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
