Marley (Moe) Patrick Styner died Friday April 1, 2005 at his home. He was born December 14, 1930 in Liberty to Pete and Clementine Lewis Styner.

Mr. Styner graduated from Palestine High School and the University of Texas in Austin. He Served in the United States Coast Guard and the 49th Division of the Texas National Guard.

Mr. Styner spent his life teaching and coaching – professions that he loved. He taught in Idalou High School, Fairfield High School and most of his career in Palestine High School. He served a term as Chairman of the Social Studies Department. Five times during his tenure at Palestine High School, he and his wife escorted groups of students to Washington, D.C., attending both of President Reagan’s inaugurations.

Mr. Styner was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. He served three terms on the Vestry and as Vestry Clerk, taught Sunday school and was a Director of St. Philip’s Discovery School.

He was a past member of the Upper Neches River Authority Board, the Anderson County Appraisal District Board and served as American Cancer Society Memorials treasurer for Anderson County.

Mr. Styner was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Styner Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Hunter Styner of Palestine; daughter Carrie Jennings and husband Glenn of Baytown; grandchildren Blake Burns, Marlee Burns of Baytown and Heather Jennings of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister Faye Styner Williamson; brothers: Michael C. Styner of Reno, Nev. and Pete Styner, Jr., of Richmond; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services for Marley “Moe” Patrick Styner, 74, of Palestine will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Sam Boyd officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Burns, Howell Crittenden, Jim Crook, Tommy Davis, Don Denson, Frank George, Harold Gilbert, Philip Gray, Charles Harper, Rip Hunter, Jim Miller, Leo Mizell, Martin Sammons and Johnny Youngblood.

Visitation with family members will be held Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
