Services for Lawrence E. Ray, 60, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Biggerstaff and Wayne Lasiter officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Ray died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital. He was born February 2, 1930, in Anderson County to Estelle Delaney Ray and Lawrence H. Ray.
Mr. Ray was a 1947 graduate of Palestine High School. He was a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church, Palestine Lodge 31 AF & AM and was a self-employed welder. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean War.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Brooks Ray, in December 1988 and a granddaughter, Christy Michelle Ray.
Mr. Ray is survived by his mother, of Palestine; sons Eddie Ray, Glenn Ray, Jimmy W. Ray and Rodney Ray, all of Palestine; sisters Mrs. Oval (Betty) Kelly of Palestine, Mrs. Baker (Dorothy) Albritton of Ruston, Louisiana, Mrs. Lois Jenkins of Longview and Mrs. Kenneth (Ann) Bambeck of Cayuga; brother Joe Bob Ray of Richardson; and six grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 823, Palestine, Texas 75802 or to the Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be A.B. Calcote, Gene Russell, Dee Johnson, George Veteto, Loyd Grasty and Lawrence Recane.
