Services for Jesse George Sr. 73 of Palestine will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine

Mr. George died Wednesday evening in Palestine.

He was born in Palestine on May 23, 1929 to William George Sr. and Janie Kojak George.

Mr. George was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a life member of the Bishop’s Guild, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Joseph’s Assembly.

He was a former director of Regions Bank. He was retired from WM George Co., where he served as past president. He also served as past president of Motel Enterprises and past president of Select Meats. Mr. George was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War.

He graduated from Palestine High School in 1947. He was an all-state football player in high school.

Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny George; and sister, Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Agnes Totah George of Palestine; sons; Jesse George Jr. of Palestine, Jeffrey George of Texarkana and Randy George of Lufkin; daughters, Gina Lyke of Schaumburg, Illinois and Camille George of Palestine; brothers, William George Jr. of Palestine; Frank George of Palestine and Murphy George of Lufkin; and 15 grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the charity of one’s choice.

Condolence calls will be received immediately following the Rosary.
