Services for Alene Kennedy of Conroe will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mims Baptist Church, 1609 Porter Rd. in Conroe. The Rev. Gene Kendrick will conduct the service.

Interment will be at the Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Metcalf Funeral Home, 1801 E. White Oak Terrace in Conroe from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Mrs. Kennedy was born January 27, 1929. She left this world on Tuesday to join her beloved husband, Ovie; and her parents, Guy and Gertie Funderburk, in the Kingdom of Heaven.

She worked for many years as an executive secretary at Tex-Trude, Inc. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1985, they moved to Lakeview Manor in Willis where they remained very active, traveling and square-dancing with their wide circle of friends. After his death in 2001, she moved to Conroe.

Mrs. Kennedy was a shining light unto her family and friends. All who knew her were blessed by the experience. She loved her parents, her husband, her sons and their wives, her granddaughters, grandsons, and her great-grandson more than she loved herself. Surely there is no greater epitaph than that. We give thanks to the Lord for a life well-lived. She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her sons, Don M. Kennedy and wife Carol, and Dr. Michael D. Kennedy and wife Debra of Conroe; grandchildren, Kelley Kennedy Schulze and husband Steve of Beaumont, Lesley Alene Kennedy and friend Trenton Davis of Spring, Jason K. Kennedy and Brian C. Kennedy of Conroe; and great-grandson, Patton Schulze. She also is survived by brothers, Weldon W. Funderburk and wife Patricia and Larry B. Funderburk and wife Linda of Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
