Services for Wanda Gambrell Cross, 78, of Palestine, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Dan Bubach officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cross died Friday in a local hospital.

She was born November 4, 1927 in Palestine to Bowen W. Gambrell and Draple Scarborough Gambrell.

Mrs. Cross was a member of the First Christian Church. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1945. In 1948 she married Robert “Bob” Cross of Palestine. Mrs. Cross, until her retirement, was a purchasing agent for Pengo & Weatherford International. She was a member of the Harvey Woman’s Club, Palestine Newcomers Club, Professional Engineers Wives Club, and the Dogwood Red hatters, Anderson County Democrat Women Member of the Year for 2003 and Anderson County Democratic Women life-long member 2005. Mrs. Cross had lived in Ft. Worth since 1951 and moved back to Palestine in 2000.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Cross is survived by daughter Carol Cross Presley and husband Larry of Tolar and grandson Brent M. Blackmon and wife Rachel of Granbury and their daughters Brynlee Alyse Blackmon and Kamryn Cook, all of Granbury and grandson Shawn E. Presley and wife Shannon of Roanoke and their children: Nick Presley and David Presley of Roanoke and grandson Walter Presley of Cleburne; and son James A. Cross and friend Sue Mick of Fort Worth and his daughters Ashley Cross of Denton and Kearsten Cross of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Gambrell, Howard Gambrell, Melvin Gambrell, W.A. Handorf, John White and Robert Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Monk, Merle Smith, Robert Totah and the remainder of Mrs. Cross classmates of 1945.

Condolence calls will be received Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
