Services for James L. Copeland, 62, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Webb officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Copeland died Thursday in Trinity Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
A native of Palestine , he was born July 24, 1928, to Allen and Lockey Bell Marr Copeland. He retired from Lone Star Gas Co. in 1985 after 33 years of service. While working for Lone Star, he lived in Palestine , Teague and Sherman, Texas; and Idabell, Purcell and Frederick, Ok. He returned to Palestine when he retired.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Palestine Lodge 31 AF&AM. In all the communities in which he lived he was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Austin Copeland of Palestine; daughters, Judy Scott of Tyler, and Sandra Copeland of Norman, Ok; sons, Frank Copeland of Palestine, and Steve Copeland of Sherman; sister, Eleanor Bacon of Huntsville; brothers, Ed Copeland, Harold Copeland, Bill Copeland and John Copeland, all of Palestine, and George Copeland of Tyler and Gene Copeland of McPherson, Kansas; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Chasten, Robert Edgeworth, Jack Lockey, Newell Kane, Jack Herod, and Ronnie Britton.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
