Nick passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at his home and entered into the gates of heaven.  He was born January 31, 1944 in Waco to Walter “Buster” and Louise Nicholson. Nick was raised in Palestine and had lived in the Alvin area since 1976. A lifelong Democrat, he served as a congressional page during the Kennedy administration and received his high school diploma personally from John F. Kennedy when he graduated from the page school in 1962. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1966.

Nick went to work for the Boy Scouts of America in 1970 and led hundreds of boys, including his two sons, to the rank of Eagle Scout. After leaving the Boy Scouts, Nick worked in the real estate business in the Alvin area, most recently with Morning Star Homes of Alvin. He was a past president of the Alvin Noon Lions Club.

Nick was an avid fisherman and teller of “big” fish stories. An excellent cook, he was well known for his oyster stew, barbecue chicken, crab boils, peanut brittle and pralines. In the last nine years he had the joy of becoming a “Paw Paw” to six adored grandchildren and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the seventh.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother- in-law, Bennie Young.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his children, Scott Nicholson and wife Stacey of Palestine, Ben Nicholson of Rockville, Maryland and Janay Andrade and husband, Robert of Alvin; grandchildren, Bailey Anne Hector, Perry Hector, Ian Nicholson, Emalyn Nicholson, Aiden Nicholson and Joshua Nicholson; sisters, Rosemary Young of Abilene, and Elizabeth Krasno and husband Irv of Arlington.

Pallbearers in Alvin will be Jackie Reed, Jeff Lyons, Byron Masters, Scott Thrash, Bob Wallner and Bob Cole. Pallbearers in Elkhart will be Jackie Reed, Doug Lowe, Calvin Nicholson, Jerry Hanson, Bob Wallner and Irv Krasno.

Memorials may be made to the Anderson County Democratic Party, the Brazoria County Democratic Party or the charity of your choice.
