Services for Dr. David Dilley Knowles, 59, will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Palestine.
Dr. Knowles died Thursday, January 1, 2004 in Dallas.
He was born March 13, 1944 at Eglin Field, Florida to the late Mr. and Mrs. William McMillan Knowles of Palestine.
Dr. Knowles graduated as valedictorian from Palestine High School in 1962 and received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1967. After receiving his M.D. degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1971, he served a rotating internship at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Wash. and did a family practice residency at The University of Oregon in Portland, after having served in the United States Public Health Service for two years in Katsabu, Alaska.
He opened a private family practice in Tyler in 1981 and was board certified by the American Society of Addition Medicine. After closing his private practice in 2001, he continued his medical work at Walker House in Tyler and Sundown Ranch near Canton. In both cases he was serving as medical director.
Dr. Knowles served as chairman of the Tyler Physicians Health and Rehabilitation Committee and served as district coordinator with the Texas Medical Association.
He is survived by sons, Patrick Knowles of Portland, OR. and Colin Knowles of Arlington; by the former Pat Rogers of Portland and by the former Carol Holland of Hideaway Lakes; brother, Bill Knowles of Palestine, Mary Knowles of Palestine; and nephews, Second Lieutenant Ian Knowles and Alexander Knowles.
