Services for David E. Foster, businessman and rancher, 64, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott A. Dornbush and Dan Manuel officiating, with a special tribute by Bob McKelvey. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Foster died Thursday at Hospice Home Place in Tyler. He was born October 21, 1941 in Palestine to L.E. and Ethel Hassell Foster. Sr.

He graduated from Palestine High School, received his B.A. degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. He worked over 50 years in the fourth generation family-owned funeral home. He served as past Chairman of the Board for Memorial Hospital, Trinity Valley Medical Center, Palestine Regional Medical Center and Palestine Industrial Foundation. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Royall National Bank, and Compass Bank, and was past Co-Chairman of the Board of United Way. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church serving in various capacities. He served in the Army National Guard.

His greatest passions were the love of his family, a servant of people in need, flying, quail hunting in South Texas and the great outdoors.  Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his father, L.E. Foster, in 1991.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Farris Foster; his mother, Ethel Hassell Foster; daughter, Judge Pam Foster Fletcher and husband Phil; a son, Michael D. Foster and wife Geri Lynn, all of Palestine; a sister, Sylvia Foster Price of Hillsborough, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Dylan Foster Fletcher, Delaney Taylor Fletcher and Grant Michael Foster.

Pallbearers will be longtime friends Bob McKelvey, Dr. C.L. “Sparky” Kolstad III, Stewart Kenderdine, Jon Gregg, Jon S. Brown and Ken Teel. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas W. Bailey, Don Foster, David Rayner III and Jerry Sanders.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
