Services for Charles C. Holmes, 66 of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Price officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Holmes died Thursday at a Palestine hospital.

He was born on September 18, 1927 to James Elmo and Lena Belle Hudson Holmes. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Transportation Department of the Palestine school district.

He previously was owner/operator of Green Thumb Nursery, Boggy’s Cafe and Ralph’s Drive In. He was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.

Mr. Holmes served in the Marines in the Pacific Theater and China during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Birdie Sue Holmes of Palestine; daughter, Holley Holmes Cooper of Deer Park; son, Hudson McCall Holmes of Houston; sisters, Jo Nelson and Mary Davis, both of Palestine; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Forrest Warrington, Harvey Rogers, Philip Gray, Johnny Youngblood, Elton Dean, Thurman Gibson, Robert Harrell, Roy Douglas, Marley Styner, J.T. Davis and Jim Dickey.
