Services for A.D. (Asa Dow) Henderson, 79, Palestine, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home chapel, Palestine, with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery.

Mr. Henderson died October 26, 2006, in Palestine.

He was born March 20, 1927, in Palestine to the late L.D. (Lucius Down) and Mae Ardelle Starr Henderson.

He was a 1944 graduate of Palestine High School and served in the Merchant Marines as an officer during World War II. He was 1949 valedictorian of Henderson County Junior College and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baylor Law School in 1953. He served as editor of the Baylor Law Review, 1952-53, and was listed in Who’s Who of American Law Students.

Mr. Henderson practiced law in Palestine, 1955-2002. He was city attorney of Palestine in the 1960s and past president of the Palestine Jaycees.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Henderson, in March 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Henderson, Palestine; daughter, Dianne Henderson, Houston; stepsons, Bubba Bankston, Palestine, and Tracy Lovett, Juneau, Alaska; brother, Robert W. Henderson, Dallas; sister, Betty Brotherton, Palestine; four grandsons and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Richard Henderson, James Dow Henderson, Garland James Bankston Jr., Michael Wallgamott, and Toby Pierce.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Frantzen, Les Dietz, Terry Lindsey and Charly Perry.

Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Cartmell Home for the Aged, 2212 W. Reagan, Palestine, 75801.
