Services for Voncile Eloise Rister, 76, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev.Theo Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rister died Tuesday at Cartmell Home for the Aged.  She was born December 27, 1925, in Palestine to Arlie and Annis Johnson Ritchey.

Mrs. Rister had lived in Palestine all her life. She was a member of First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She was a 1942 graduate of Palestine High School and a graduate of Nixon Business College.

She worked many years at the General Office, was a teachers’ aide with Palestine Independent School District, and a housewife.  Mrs. Rister worked with the U.S.O. during World War II. She coached girl’s softball at the YMCA and was very active in PTA. She was a former secretary of the Palestine High School PTA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Rister, in 1979.

Mrs. Rister is survived by son, Coy Richard Rister of San Antonio; daughter, Lana Jo Rister of Palestine; and one sister.

Pallbearers will be nephews in the Johnson and Rister family.

Honorary pallbearers will be her Gardner Drive neighbors.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church; Montalba Christian Church; Hospice of East Texas-Tyler; or to the Canine Society.
