Ulon Willis Rankin 1942

Memorial services for Ulon Rankin, 66 of Austin, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Resurrection Episcopal Church in Austin.

Mr. Rankin died Sunday in Austin after a lengthy illness.  He was born December 17, 1923, in McAllister, Oklahoma, and grew up in Palestine. He was an outstanding football and track star at Palestine High School. During World War II, he served in the Air Force.

After military service he received a master’s degree from West Texas State University and later got his doctor’s degree from Texas A & M University. He served as a teacher and administrator at Amarillo and Austin high schools. He was a member of Resurrection Episcopal Church in Austin, was a Mason and Shriner and a member in numerous professional organizations.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson Rankin,

He is survived by his wife, Freda Rankin of Austin; a son, Lon Rankin of Austin; brother, Billy Rankin and Garland Wilmoth, both of Palestine; as sister, Mary Landrum of Tyler; and two grandchildren.
