Services for Richard Vernon Pounds, 82, of Palestine, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Bailey and Foster Chapel with Earl King officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Pounds died Tuesday at Palestine’s David Foster Hospice Unit.

He was born July 17, 1925 in Leon County to James Eddie Pounds and Nora Mullenax Pounds Rogers.

Mr. Pounds was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and most recently attended North Jackson Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Medical Detachment of the 398th Infantry 100th division. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, and WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Pounds had a lifetime membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He was employed at Sunshine Laundry from 1946 to 1967 and Palestine Laundry from 1967 to 2004. He was laundry salesman and plant manager.

Mr. Pounds was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Bond Clark; and a granddaugther, Tiffany Michelle Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Joanne Pounds of Palestine; four daughters: Joanne Carol Perry and husband David of Palestine, April Louise Johnston and husband Mike of Lake Palestine, Tina Dawn Teetz and husband Thomas of Elkhart, and Stacy Lynn Posey of Bullard; two sons: Benjamin “Ben” Ray Pounds and wife Barbara of Palestine, and Richard (Rick) Marcus Pounds of Palestine and sister Irene Young and husband Allen of Victoria; three brothers: J.E. Pounds and wife Joyce of Wichita Falls, Billy James Pounds and wife Dee of Leona and Charles Pounds and wife Stella of Austin; 11 grandchildren, 18 great, grandchildren and four great, great, grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Eric Pounds, Jonathan Teetz, Nick Posey, Cliff Perry, Scott Pounds and Mark Freeman. Honorary pallbearers with be great grandsons.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home. Family requests memorials be made to Hospice of East Texas and Meals on Wheels.
