Services for Harold M. Copeland, 82, of Palestine were at 10 a.m. today at New Addition Annex Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Dornbush and Jim R. Pendland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Copeland died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.  He was born February 19, 1923 in Anderson County to Albert Allen and Lockey Belle Marr Copeland.

Mr. Copeland graduated from Palestine High School in 1942. He retired from the USAF in 1967 after serving 22 years, and flew 51 missions during World War II. He then attended Trinity Valley Community College and was employed with Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He retired in 1983 after 16 years of service.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Victor Sunday School Class, Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF & AM, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3907.

Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Edward Copeland and James Copeland.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Copeland of Palestine; daughters, Susan Copeland Cantin of Chelmsford, Mass., Rebecca Copeland Cliver of Palestine, Diane Copeland of Lake Cherokee and Lisa Copeland of Palestine; sister, Eleanor Browder of Huntsville; brothers, H.E. “Gene” Copeland of McPherson, Kan., Bill Copeland and John D. Copeland, both of Palestine, and George C. Copeland of Winona; four grandchildren, Sarah Copeland, Joshua Young, Leslie Cantin and Elizabeth Cantin; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Copeland, Jeremy Simms and Lockey Belle Young.
