Durnal Cross Jr., 86, born September 1, 1920 in Palestine to Durnal and Maggie Jo Cross Sr. passed from this life on August 16, 2007 in Huntsville.
He was a longtime resident of Walker County. He was a member of the Joe Werner Lodge No. 553 A.F. and A.M. in Trinity. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities. He was a big outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, but his real passion was flying. Durnal served in the 3705th Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a crew chief on B-25’s for six years.
He was loved by all who knew him. His fun, outgoing personality made it impossible not to like him. He loved his friends, but most of all he loved his family. He was married to his wife, Ruby Kiser Cross, for 63 years. They were married in 1944 in LaJunta, Co.
Mr. Cross is survived by his loving wife Ruby Cross; his daughter Becky Cross Brandewie and husband Charles; and his granddaughter, Lisa Brandewie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Hollan Cross; and his sisters, Shirley Johnson, Carolyn Yancey and Bonnie Feather.
Memorial services for Mr. Cross will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 28 at the Riverside Methodist Church with a reception to follow at the community room at the Thomas Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department.
