Private Masonic graveside services for Dr. Emmett P. McCall, 83, of Palestine will be held at Grapeland City Cemetery with Judge Bascom Bentley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Dr. McCall died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Hospice Home Place in Tyler, after a short illness.
He was born July 4, 1920 in Grapeland to Emmett P. McCall and Perlena Spence McCall.
Dr. McCall graduated from Palestine High School and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. He graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from Monroe College of Optometry, Chicago, Ill. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Force.
Dr. McCall was a Mason and a member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF & AM. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club.
Dr. McCall practiced optometry in Palestine from 1946 to 1996 and was a well known rancher and sportsman. He married Hazel Fairchild McCall in July 1942.
Dr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy McCall McDonald. He is survived by a son, Emmett “Buster” McCall III and wife Debbie of Austin; daughters, Carla Le Gard and husband Larry, and Jan Douthit and husband Mike, all of Palestine; brother, Dr. John A. McCall of Crockett; stepbrother, Dr. Arnold Broughton of Lufkin; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Dr. George Massey, Harvey Mundkowsky, Michael McCall, Michael Douthit, Adam Massey, and Anson Massey. Honorary pallbearers are Ostell Johnson, Robert Allen, Dr. Robert McFarlane and Charlie Reeves.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
