Services for Judge Tate McCain, 74, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. at Palestine City Cemetery with Dr. Tom Rousseau officiating.  Buriel will be under the direction of Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Judge McCain died Saturday at an Abilene hospital after a brief illness.  He was born in the Pert Community near Palestine on July 21, 1920, to Everett Tate and Jettie Word McCain.  After graduation from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Law School, he returned to Palestine to practice law with his father at the McCain, Stanford, McCain law firm in Palestine.  He practiced law for 33 years in Palestine.

Judge McCain was appointed by Gov. Preston Smith as a District Judge and served for 10 years.  He was a member of First Christian Church.  He married Peggy Moore McCain on September 7, 1941.  She preceded him in death in December, 1993.

He is survived by his daughter, Lee McCain Brown of Abilene; and one grandson.  Locally, he is survived by an aunt, Daisy Word of Palestine.

Pallbearers will be Elton Meyers, Paul Elliott, Theodore S. Maffitt, Jr., Dale Smith, William Austin and Dick Mahoney.
