Robert Lee Brittain 1937

Robert Lee Brittain was born September 11, 1918 in Concord, Texas, the son of Joe and Mary Brittain. Bob passed on May 13, 2006. His parents and three sisters preceded him in death.
His wife, Louise, his son, Steve Brittain, Sylvia Brittain and his daughter Kitty Ramsey and husband Steve survive Bob. He is also survived by grandchildren, Teri Goertz, Angela Stell, Brian Cardenas, Matthew Ramsey, Katie Ramsey and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Overfelt, Sydney Goertz and Josephine Stell, all of Austin, Texas.
Bob graduated from Palestine High School in 1937. Following graduation he entered the armed services in January 1941, and was assigned to the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion. During World War II he received among other decorations a Purple Heart and the RAME Campaign Medal with five stars for action in Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.
Following his military service he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Deer Park, Texas. In 1947 he met Louise Rigsby, a registered nurse, dispatched by the American Red Cross to the Texas City Disaster. Later that year Bob and Louise were married and remained devoted to each other for the next 58 years.
He was a gentle, loving and wise husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed.

Viewing for family and friends 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr., at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17th.
