Ray Weldon Read was born December 24, 1915 in Ft. Worth, and died January 05, 1986 in Tyler. He was the son of Osceola and Florence Fain Read.

While attending Palestine High School Weldon played on the school football team (1931,1932 and 1935), was Captain of the Track Team (1935), participated in the Interscholastic Play (1936) and the Dramatic Society (1935) and was voted the “Most Handsome” in the Senior Class (1936).

He married Margaret Sutton August 27, 1937 in Palestine, daughter of Huey and Sarah Johnson Sutton.  Weldon graduated from Austin College, Sherman in 1940. In World War II he served in the U. S. Navy.

In his job with the U. S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer, Weldon worked in several South American countries, including Panama, Guatemala and Chili as well as Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ruth Fain Read Meisner and a brother Edwin Hughes Read.

He is survived by his wife, and son Ray WeldonRead Jr., and a brother William Thomas Read and a sister Ada Helen Read Gentry.
