Oscar Oehler Broughton Jr

Oscar Oehler Broughton aged 94, died on November 25, 2010, in Houston, Texas. He was born May 13, 1916, in Palestine, Texas, to Oscar and Mabel Wilkey Broughton and was the oldest of five children.

Oscar was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Woodard Broughton, both his parents, one brother, Guy Morris Broughton and two sisters, Rubye Broughton Trigg and Helen Broughton Wilkinson.

Oscar is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kay Broughton Lumpkin Allday and James Allday; Diann Broughton Hoops and Robert Charles Hoops; and Thomas Earl Broughton and Alice Chang Broughton. He has six grandchildren, Pat, Cathy, Beth, Steven, Danny and Andy and six great-grandchildren, Beth’s Makeo, Mason and Maiya, Cathy’s Cole and Amanda, and Pat’s Brody. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Edna Mae Brougthon of Deer Park, as well as, sister-in-law Joyce Woodard Patrick of Houston and brother-in-law, Dale Wilkinson of Spring.

Oscar is also survived by his dear friend, Marie Robison, who resides in Sugar Land. In addition there are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and very special friends who will miss him, his sensible outlook, generous spirit and strong sense of humor.

Oscar and Wanda moved to Houston in 1942 and lived for many years in Pecan Park where they were active members of St. Andrews Methodist Church. Oscar is a current member of Servants of Christ United Methodist Parish (formerly Park Place Methodist Church).

Oscar was a Mason and long-standing member of Park Place Lodge # 1172 where he proudly earned his 65-year pin. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 3-5 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend Will Reed of Servants of Christ United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be Monday, November 29, 2010, in the Main Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home beginning at 1 p.m. with a Masonic interment immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association , or a charity of the donor’s choice.
