Gordon Barrett Broyles Jr 1933

Services for Gordon B. Broyles, 76, of Palestine, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian church with the Rev. David Pittenger and Dr. Jeff cover officiating.  Burial will be in the East Hill Section of Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.  Mr. Broyles died Sunday at Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Metcalf, Arizona on April 27, 1916 to Gordon and Claudia Barrett Broyles.  He was an independent oil operator of the petroleum industry.

He was a director of first National Bank in Palestine and a director of the Upper Neches River Authority.  He was a member of Cars of Palestine, First Presbyterian Church and Palestine Noon Lion’s club.  Mr. Broyles was a former member of the Palestine School Board.  During World War II, he served as a Major in the U.S. Army air Corps.

He is survived by his wife Frances (Dilley) Broyles who he married in 1941 of Palestine; daughter, Lucie Bostick of Winter Haven, FL; sons Barrett Broyles of Conroe and Tom Broyles of Palestine; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Luckett Kolstad, Dr. Sparky Kolstad, Dr. Stan Skrepnek, Lloyd Birdwell, Bascom Bentley III, Roy Douglas, Russell Turbyfill, Vernon Calhoun, Keith Hightower, Floyd McFarlane, Jeff Herrington and the Rev. Obie Bowser.
