Vallie Mae Morris Godfrey 1932 Co-Valedictorian

Vallie Mae Godfrey, 89, of Austin, passed away Friday, July 18, 2003. She was born September 7, 1913 in Palestine to Fount Lee and Maude Morris.
Vallie was valedictorian of her graduating class at Palestine High School. She also was head librarian for several years while living in Crystal City. She married Thomas H. Godfrey on May 30, 1935, in Palestine. Vallie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was greatly loved and will be missed. Vallie was very giving and always there for her family and friends. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; one brother; and her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia G. Oxford and husband Emory of Fair Oaks Ranch; son, H. Lee Godfrey and wife Sandy of Houston; grandson, Thomas Oxford of Beaumont; granddaughters, Teresa Oxford and Diana Oxford, both of San Antonio, Lindsey Summers of Seattle; great-grandchildren, Brett Oxford, Ryan Oxford, Ciarra Oxford, Coleman Oxford, Isabel Oxford and Thomas Summers.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Sunday, July 20, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
In lieu of floral contributions, the family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Godfrey’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Cook Walden Funeral Home, Austin.
