Clyde Walton Hanks Jr. passed away Tuesday, October 17 from a lengthy illness. He is survived by two daughters, Kit Stewart and Mary Sue Reuther; grandchildren, David Listerman, Amy Stewart, Jesse Stewart, Travis Stewart, Kimberly Blackwell, Sarah Stewart, Mary Helen Hanks, Joclyn Hanks, Holcombe Hanks; three great-grandchildren, two stepsons, Peter Thornton and Gardner Thornton; nephew, Jackson Hanks and niece Lucinda Hanks.

He was preceded in death by his son, Clyde W. Hanks III and his wife, Howard Kolstad Hanks.

Clyde was born on March 9, 1915, in Palestine, Texas. He graduated from Rice University and was a successful businessman in Houston, Texas for more than 70 years. He was a major influence in the founding of the GCCA, now Coastal Conservation Association.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at the Palestine City Cemetery in Palestine, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Coastal Conservation Association in Clyde’s memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Geo H. Lewis & Son Funeral & Cremations, Houston, Texas.
