Services for T.B. Bailey Jr., 86, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey died Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

He was born December 16, 1913, in Palestine, to Thomas Baldwin Bailey Sr. and Dora Virginia Jackson Bailey.

Mr. Bailey graduated from Palestine High School in 1931. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1936 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was the city tennis champion in 1935.

He joined the family business at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home and received his funeral director’s license in 1937. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Palestine where he served as a Clerk of the Session and taught the teen-age boys Sunday school class.

Mr. Bailey was a long time civic leader. He leaves a legacy of community involvement that includes a long time resume of activism in organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, the United Way Fund drive, the Girl Scouts, the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Sue Bailey of Palestine; a son, Thomas W. Bailey of Palestine; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Hugh Summers, Cad E. Williams, Ben Swinney, Bill Bible, Chris Kenner and Joe Ed Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clinton W. Crass, Bailey Summers, David J. Dial and Charles C. Davis.
