Services for retired Lt. Col. Guy N. Tomkins, 82, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tennessee Colony Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Sitton officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.  Lt. Col. Tomkins died Monday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

He was born in Palestine on June 14, 1910, to Reed and Laura Collier Tomkins.  During World War II, he served  as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army Air Corps.  He also was an operator for Hunt Oil Co.

He was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church and Palestine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jonibel DuPuy Tomkins, on September 14, 1989 and a granddaughter, Starla McKay, in 1979.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Hulin of Beaumont and Sylvia McKay of Lake Palestine; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be J.M. Weaver, R. W. Crawford, Alton Southerland, J.D. Lightfoot, James Ives, H.O. Martin and C.J. Marshall.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
